About Andrea Kavanagh

I am an emerging Irish Ceramic Artist living in the foothills of the Dublin mountains in Ireland. I work primarily with porcelain clay creating ceramic sculpture which reflects my interest in the natural world especially its delicacy and fragility. Seed heads, seashells and cracked birds eggs all inspire my sculptural ceramic work and hanging installations. I love the natural world and am privileged to have some wonderful woodland scenery surrounding me and influencing my practice.

My work evolves slowly with a combination of clay hand building and brush work with porcelain slip using transparent glaze and sometimes glaze lustres to achieve the final sculptural form. I work with transparent perspex,  fishing line, chains, hooks and beads to display and in some respects frame my work. I am interested in finding new ways of seeing porcelain clay.

I exhibit with Ceramics Ireland regularly and I am an active member of  Artist Network Dun Laoghaire, Dublin  / ARTNETDLR . I am a professional member of Visual Artists Ireland.

I have received multiple arts grants to make work in my locality of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown through the DLR Arts programme and in 2020 I was awarded an Emerging Artist Bursary from them.
